ANAMA Clears 7,944 Hectares of Land and Discovers 3,878 Mines in Azerbaijan's Liberated Areas in Q1 2023

According to Vugar Suleymanov, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA), the first quarter of 2023 saw significant progress in the demining activities conducted by the agency in the liberated areas. In this period, ANAMA discovered 3,878 mines and unexploded ordnance, while 7,944 hectares of land were cleared.

Suleymanov stressed that demining activities are among the top priorities of the Azerbaijan state, as they play a crucial role in the restoration and reconstruction of the liberated territories, as well as in ensuring the safe and stable return of internally displaced persons to their homelands.

The Chairman highlighted the importance of demining operations within the framework of the 'Great Return' program, which aims to ensure the sustainable development of the territories freed from occupation.

At the general meeting dedicated to the results of the first quarter of 2023, ANAMA identified upcoming obligations, challenges, and ways to increase efficiency in demining activities. Relevant tasks were given to address these issues and to continue the progress achieved in clearing the liberated areas of explosive remnants of war.
